TS-HDEM Lines--Heavy Duty Expanded Mild Steel Metal Mesh
Definition of Expanded Metal Mesh
Expanded metal mesh is a type of sheet metal mesh which has been cut and stretched to form a regular pattern (often diamond-shaped) of metal mesh-like material. It is commonly used for fences and grates.
Expanded metal mesh is stronger than an equivalent weight of wire mesh such as chicken wire.
Freshly-cut expanded metal has a large number of exposed sharp edges, requiring caution and protective clothing, such as leather gloves and aprons to prevent skin abrasions and cuts.
Applications of Expanded Metal Mesh
Expanded metal mesh is frequently used to make fences, walkways, and grates, as the material is very durable and strong, unlike lighter and less expensive wire mesh. Many small openings in the material allow flow through of air, water, and light, while still providing a mechanical barrier to larger objects.
Another advantage to using expanded metal mesh as opposed to plain sheet metal is that the exposed edges of the expanded metal mesh provide more traction, which has led to its use in catwalks or drainage covers.
Large quantities of expanded metal mesh are used by the construction industry as metal lath to support materials such as plaster, stucco, or adobe in walls and other structures.
In contemporary architecture, expanded metal mesh has been used as an exposed facade or screen material which can be formed into simple or complex decorative shapes.
Expanded metal mesh can also be used for a walkway grating that is self-draining and non-slip.
About Heavy Duty Expanded Mild Steel Metal Mesh
A heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh is produced from a heavy-gauge mild steel plate. In the production process, the heavy-gauge mild steel plate is simultaneously die-cut and expanded as it moves through the progressive dies on a press. This production process allows the heavy-gauge mild steel plate to be expanded lengthwise significantly, while reducing much of its original weight per square meter and retaining its sturdiness as a single piece of mild steel.
The heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh contains no joints or welds. It is easy to install and maintain.
The heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh creates a stable, slip-resistant surface on stairs, platforms, catwalks and pedestrian walkways.
In sum, the heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh is strong, so it can hold up very well even in the most demanding work environments.
The heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh also features a high percentage of open area that allows snow, grease, dirt and other debris to fall through.
In addition to the heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh sheets, our factory also produces the heavy duty expanded metal sheets of some other material types, including galvanized steel, stainless steel and aluminum.

Applications of Heavy Duty Expanded Mild Steel Metal Mesh
The Heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh is produced from the mild steel sheet and plate, which contains no joints or welds, as each sheet is a single piece of sturdy steel. Light weight and economical, the heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh is ideal for use wherever a strong, durable lightweight surface is needed. It is the standard product specified by engineers and managers for use in:
-Catwalks, ramps, stairs, platforms
-Maintenance platforms
-Elevated walkways
-Infill panels
-Mezzanines and heavy duty shelving
-Truck-cab safety screens, vehicle flooring and transport protection
-Cold storage
-Ship and offshore rig flooring
-Partitions where high security is important
-Security platforms
-Industrial stairs, window protection and doors
Generally speaking, mild steel expanded metal mesh works well wherever a durable, cost-effective, non-slip surface is required.
The high percentage of open area, characteristic of heavy duty expanded mild steel metal mesh, allows snow, water and oil to drain off easily, thus maintaining the excellent slip-resistant surface. The same high percentage of open area also allows excellent passage of heat and light and contributes to walkway cleanliness. Where building maintenance and safety are important considerations, these features are outstanding.
An Informal Discussion about Expanded Metal
Strand Thickness:
In standard (raised) expanded metal, it is the gauge of the base metal (thickness of steel sheets).
In flattened expanded metal, it is the overall thickness of the finished sheet.
Strand Width:
Amount of material fed into the press to produce one strand.
SWD:
The distance from a point on a bond to a corresponding point on the following bond measured across the Short Way of Design or Short Way of Diamond.
LWD:
The distance from a point on a bond to a corresponding point on the following bond measured across the Long Way of Design or Long Way of Diamond.
